SCHOOLS SC Healthcare Workers at Risk: An Introduction to Clinical Disaster Preparedness

Dr. Lancer A. Scott, Director of the Center for Health Professional Training and Emergency Response (CHPTER) and Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina, will lead a discussion about the basics of disaster preparedness that all healthcare workers in South Carolina should know. At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the threats, vulnerabilities and security risks facing healthcare facilities and patient care providers in South Carolina.
  • List specific actions to take and those to avoid during a healthcare disaster.
  • Summarize components of teamwork, communication and triage that are essential to an effective response during a healthcare disaster.

Target Audience: Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, first responders and first receivers
