Barbara A Drayton Esq.
Barbara A. Drayton, Esquire currently serves as deputy general counsel for the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE), where she has worked for twenty-three years. Ms. Drayton’s primary areas of practice are the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other disability and civil rights laws related to the education of students with disabilities; the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); school-based Medicaid services; and other education-related laws. Ms. Drayton also supervises the state’s special education due process hearing and mediation systems and provides technical assistance to school districts and other public agencies.
Ms. Drayton received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of South Carolina and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina, School of Law. Prior to employment with the SCDE, Ms. Drayton was a criminal prosecutor.
