Jewel Scott PhD, RN, FNP-C
Dr. Jewel Scott is an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina College of Nursing. She is a primary care nurse practitioner with decades of experience working at federally qualified health centers. As a clinician, she enjoys working with adolescent and young adult patients to optimize their health through preventive care services and managing early onset chronic disease, such as hypertension. In her research, she focuses on the intersection of structural and social determinants of health on cardiovascular and pregnancy-related health outcomes among young adult Black women. She is currently leading research on the impact of racial trauma and the COVID-19 pandemic on social networks and health behaviors of reproductive-age Black women.
Dr. Scott received the 2020 American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Excellence in Advancing Nursing Science Dissertation award, the American Heart Association’s Trudy Bush Fellowship for Cardiovascular Disease Research in Women’s Health and was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar at Duke University. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the beautiful South Carolina beaches.
