James Holder MA, LPC, MAC

Jim is a counselor, author, consultant and trainer in private practice.  Until 2013, he was the Coordinator of Substance Abuse Services with McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. He has 45 years of experience in the delivery and development of treatment and prevention services.  He has lately researched his publications, which include the books, Perceptual Adjustment Therapy, A Positive Approach to Addictions Treatment, Soar Like An Eagle, Individual Psychology for Substance Use Disorders, the workbook, Sobriety Enhancement, and the pamphlet, The FACE Screening.  His most recent trainings have been with ICASSI in The Netherlands, Germany, Indianapolis, and Ireland, in Bangkok, Thailand, in The Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania, where his book and DVD’s have been translated into Romanian, and with the South Carolina Society of Adlerian Psychology. 

He was awarded Counselor of the Year by SCAADAC in 1998, and the USA National Counselor of the Year by NAADAC in 1999.  He is the past chair of the National Certification Commission for Addictions Professionals.

His prevention involvement goes back to the 1990s and most recently his focus is on preventing medication abuse through the FACE Screening.  He has been a contributing member of the Recovery Oriented System of Care in SC.  He is affiliated with ICASSI, NAADAC, SCAADAC, and SCSAP.  He began contributing to the Universal Treatment Curricula manuals in 2014 under the auspices of the US State Department.
