Description
Learn the basics of HIPAA in this online module and lay the foundation for becoming an ethical and law-abiding health professional. This module is an introduction to the principles of HIPAA and is not intended to provide a complete training on full compliance. This course includes a pre-test, post-test and evaluation. The module is aligned to the following SC Health Science 2 Standard: Foundations of Healthcare Professions Standard 5: Legal Responsibilities: Describe legal responsibilities, limitations, and implications on healthcare worker actions. 5.2. Describe and apply standards for safety, privacy, and confidentiality of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA privileged communication).

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the importance of HIPAA
  • Identify protected health information
  • Apply the basic principles of HIPAA compliance in your role as a future health professional
