Description
The purpose of this educational activity is to provide health care professionals with an overview of current hypertension guidelines from various professional organizations, including recommendations for initial anti-hypertensive drug therapy and target blood pressure goals. Additionally, participants will be presented with new research concerning the successful management of hypertension in rural communities in China and how the results of this large-scale clinical trial may be applicable to the treatment of hypertension in patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease in underserved, rural areas in the southeast U.S. This activity will also include a discussion of effective combinations of blood pressure-lowering drugs and a review of appropriate monitoring parameters and dosage titration schedules for the most commonly prescribed antihypertensive drug classes.
