Description
This is part 2 of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE-A) program. Part 1 is 24 hours online, Part 2 is 16 hours which will equal 40 contact hours. You must complete all course requirements (pre and post test, lectures, and review handouts and additional information) prior to attending this session.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • define trauma, explain the affects of trauma on cognition.
  • relate risk factors that can increase the psychological impact of trauma, briefly describe the effects of trauma on memory formation.
  • verbalize why it is better to delay obtaining official statements from victims of trauma.
  • define domestic violence.
  • describe the victims, patterns, and barriers to intervention of domestic violence.
  • describe the nursing process and how to correctly document, using a medical screening exam.
  • describe the 10 reasons why sexual assaults are not reported.
  • describe what the benefits of an MDT model are.
  • understand the court process if you are called to be an expert witness.
  • identify and discuss the anatomy of an ano-genital evaluation and explain the differences between a normal and abnormal evaluation.
  • define the three types of rapist.
