Description
The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program is designed for the period following resuscitation of the newborn or neonate until care is transferred to the neonatal transport team . The S.T.A.B.L.E. curriculum includes detailed information on the assessment of both well and sick infants. The six assessment and care modules are organized using the S.T.A.B.L.E. mnemonic: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support for the family. A seventh module, Quality Improvement stresses the professional responsibility of evaluating and improving care provided to sick infants. Each clinical module (STABL) provides detailed information on clinical signs, problem recognition, laboratory data, complications that can occur, and specific care recommendations to address illnesses or conditions that may be encountered. S.T.A.B.L.E. is designed to provide information about neonatal assessment and stabilization for infant/maternal healthcare providers in all settings: rural community hospitals and birth centers, emergency personnel who transport a sick infant from home to hospital, nurses and physicians encountering a sick infant in the emergency room, and more complex hospital environments, including level 3 and 4 neonatal intensive care units. The S.T.A.B.L.E Program is taught in 2 sessions, one being online and the other in-class. The online S.T.A.B.L.E. Foundations module is a four-part curriculum and must be complete 24 hours before attending the in-class section.
