Description
Where do our patients/participants go when they are feeling sick? For some in our community, the Emergency Room may be the first place they go for care. However, many roles/duties of CHWs help drive patient engagement to primary care, urgent care, and walk-in clinics. In addition, CHWs can provide educational interventions to prevent unnecessary ER visits. Doing our part as CHWs is transformative, as Nelson Mandela stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least five reasons to go to a Primary Care Provider.
  • List at least five reasons to go to an Urgent Care or Walk-In Clinic.
  • Describe at least five reasons to go to the Emergency Room (ER).
  • Discuss at least three roles/ duties that CHWs use to drive patient engagement.
  • Write three interventions that could prevent unnecessary ER visits.
