This course is designed to assist healthcare professionals become more confident caring for patients with psychiatric illnesses outside of the psychiatric setting.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify behaviors, psychiatric symptoms, and other challenges presented by medical-surgical patients.
  • Identify physical illnesses associated with psychological, emotional and behavioral symptoms in patients.
  • Identify the 4 primary nurse competencies needed to effectively care for patients having a mental health crisis.
