Description
In this program, participants will become aware of environmental objects and issues that can increase risk for patient self-harm. They will recognize how their attitudes can interfere with providing quality care to these patients and will comprehend the need for and contents of current policies and procedures focused on care and safety for inpatients experiencing self-harm or suicidal thoughts.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review the epidemiology of suicide / self-harm that occurs in hospitals.
  • Recognize and examine hospital staff-related factors affecting patient care.
  • Discuss system issues, including communication and policies and procedures.
