Description
Addressing critical issues or concerns can be challenging in the best of situations. Bringing up or responding to sensitive topics can contribute to us reacting in one of 2 extremes - avoiding at all costs or aggressively "hitting it head on." Both extremes can result in destructive conversations, leaving both parties unsettled and dissatisfied.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what makes for a difficult conversation.
  • Summarize what makes us tend to go from one extreme to another.
  • Explain communication styles.
  • Interpret the "dance," we may engage with others.
  • Learn the role of perspective and the "stories" we tell ourselves.
  • Learn healthy approaches for addressing challenging issues or concerns.
Disclosures
Pee Dee AHEC’s conflict of interest policy requires faculty to disclose any real or apparent commercial financial affiliations related to the content of their presentations/materials. Speakers have signed a vested interest form declaring any conflict of interest in education activities.
