Description
Participants will learn how ethics plays an important role in the health care profession. This course includes a pre-test, assignment, post-test and evaluation. The module objectives are aligned to the following SC Health Science 2 Standards: Foundations of Healthcare Professions Standard 5: Legal Responsibilities: Describe legal responsibilities, limitations, and implications on healthcare worker actions. 5.1 Explain practices that could result in malpractice, liability, and/or negligence (to include civil law, and criminal law. Summarize laws governing harassment, labor, and scope of practice.) 5.4 Describe advance directives, informed consent and explore the Patient’s and Residents Bill of Rights. 5.5 Summarize the essential characteristics of a patient’s basic rights within a healthcare setting.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the four principles of healthcare ethics and how adherence can improve patient care.
  • Identify legal rights and obligations that affect patients and protect individual rights, including rights of health care professionals.
