Description
Please join us for the 2024 Pee Dee Region Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Conference. This year’s conference will be a 2-day conference. Registration is required to attend; however, each day will have a separate registration. Topics discussed on Day 1 will include: vulnerable adults, mental health care for first responders, caring for and interacting with kink-oriented individuals, genital piercings and injuries and child abuse.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify vulnerabilities that increase the risk of sexual abuse.
  • Discuss how these vulnerabilities contribute to the increased risk and challenge in detecting and addressing abuse.
  • Discuss the common barriers that prevent vulnerable adults from reporting abuse, such as fear of not being believed, lack of communication skills, or misconceptions about their capacity to consent
  • Determine effective strategies for responding to disclosures of sexual abuse, ensuring they are equipped to handle such sensitive situations with the appropriate empathy and professionalism.
  • Discover yourself by taking a deeper dive into your personal mental health status.
  • Explore ways to increase effectiveness on and off the job/career.
  • Practice tough conversations with self and other important people.
  • Discuss sexual behaviors and identities that encompass BDSM and sexual fetishism.
  • Recognize and treat kink-oriented patients/clients.
  • Minimize stigmatization around kink-oriented individuals seeking services with an emphasis on trauma-informed care.
  • Recognize potential biases towards/against individuals with piercings.
  • Describe at least 3 types of genital piercings.
  • Review the history and individual reasonings for genital piercings.
  • Recognize and explain pattern injuries.
  • Explain why pattern injuries are important.
  • Identify examples of subtle injuries and how to recognize them.
